Trust your mummy instincts

Claire • Three losses, 1 rainbow baby boy and now we are expecting another sticky bean 🌈❤️
I just wanted to share my story with you all about my little one and how if you think somethings not quite right, to trust your instincts and keep going to get answers...
When my lo was born, we breastfed straight away with what appeared to be no issues; when discharged home we continued with bf and all seemed to be going well. However when lo lost more than 10% of his birth weight, the midwives came and watched me feeding as they thought he might not be latching correctly. They said my boobs were fine and his latch was fine and that he was just a lazy baby only feeding for 5 mins and then falling asleep on the boob. I asked about tongue tie and they both said no he didnt have one.
To cut a long story short, we continued bf for 2 weeks and bub wasn't gaining weight and was miserable all the time. I made the painful decision to switch to formula as I wasn't getting much milk when pumping and initially again lo seemed OK.
Fast forward to 9 weeks old and lo had never finished a full bottle and displayed various signs that I thought weren't right for feeding. I contacted several other professionals to ask what it could be and if again, lo was tongue tied preventing a good latch only to be told no all was fine and got the 'look' that I was being a neurotic first time mum.
In the end I begged a breastfeeding Lactation consultant to look at my baby who confirmed after 9 weeks of his life and me asking 8 professional people that he DID have a posterior tongue tie!!! She also mentioned other symptoms he could be experiencing as a result of the tie and it was like she described my baby from day 1-silent reflux, gassy and windy, feeds that last 1hr+, unsettled etc.. I cried in relief that finally someone had listened to me and have now paid for bub to have the tie snipped. It's only one day after his op but I can already see signs of improvement and hope to god that this continues and he starts to gain weight.
Sorry for the lengthy post but I just want to share with other mummy's and daddy's that if you think there to be something wrong, trust your gut and persevere until you get answers xx
