When to tell...

Question

I'm 14 weeks and 3 days, today. I just offered a full time job at an accounting firm. Of course I took it, it's more hours and better pay than what I had. I'm not sure when I should inform them about what's in my belly, or how to say it. Anyone have any idea of the a good way to handle this situation?

If you're not really showing, I'd give it a month (or however long you can!) and just get settled and established as a quality employee in everyone's minds, before bringing it up.

Waiting until 20 weeks is socially acceptable. There isn't really a deadline date that you must tell them by, but be sure to bring your boss and teammates into a discussion about your postpartum absence with enough time for you all to figure out how the team is going to operate without you while you and baby recuperate and bond. That will make it very clear that you value your job, respect your employer and are a team player, which are must haves if you want to go back to work at some point.
