Second trimester blood work?

Hi ladies, quick question about the second trimester blood work/screening. I had thought the first trimester blood work (they took 9 viles) was the only blood work needed but just got word there is an additional standard second trimester blood work screening they use in combination with the first trimester blood results and 20 week scan results. Have any of you done this? Do they take as much blood as the first trimester screening and are they looking for the same abnormalities? Everything came back normal for my first set but now I'm nervous about this set. Thanks so much in advance!

I just had my 16 wk labs done yesterday. It was one tube to test if mom is a carrier for spina bifida.

My first visit at 8 weeks I believe they took 9, or close to. Mostly tests for iron, stds, and to measure your hemocrit levels (red blood cells, white blood cells, ect)

The blood taken at 13 and 16 weeks was to check iron, hemocrit levels and they said they can see if there's any indicator that the baby might have downs syndrome or spine abuffida. They use the blood and the ultrasound (if there's excess fluid around the neck) to see if the mother should take further, invasive tests to confirm the anomalies.

My lab work gets sent to my email and I can see exactly what my results are. I have to rely on Google for some translation but it's real comforting I have access to my results.

I got 4 vials taken in first trimester, but my doc told me I'm not getting anymore done until 28 weeks for gestational diabetes test then none until I deliver. That's a LOT of blood work for you, jesus.

First trimester, they took four vials from me. It's standard at my doctors to get the same amount (I think) taken in the second trimester. If they took nine I'd pass out for sure.

At 11 weeks they took 10 tubes of blood!  I had to stop at the 7th tube from having difficulty with blood flow and being light headed. I go tomorrow to find out what the results for all that blood were.  I hope I don't have to go through that again.

I remember the first set of blood work seemed like a lot of viles. I don't know how many they took. The next big one for me was when you do the glucose testing. I just know I pass out almost every time they take blood and I did with both of those on my first. This time the nurse was fantastic and I breezed through the first one. I think those were the only 2 really. They checked it a couple other times but they didn't take much.

Yeah that seems like a lot. I had like 3-4 vials for 1st trimester. For my 12 week nuchal it was only a finger prick. And for my 16 week I can't imagine it's too much either.

I had 13 vials of blood for first trimester screening and today I went for 2nd tri screening and they took 1 yes 1! and it was the small size.

I did the first trimester screening blood test, but my high risk suggested to do the harmony test so I did that. you get better results with only one test so now I don't have to do the next set of blood tests.

I only had three vials taken in the first trimester, and those were for elective tests (Harmony and Spina Bifida). I'm not sure what the 9 vials would be for. Did they explain?
