Have you had a Scheduled C-Section?

I'm having a c section with this baby due to medical reasons. I've had 3 babies vaginally already, my last one was 10lbs with no meds, so I've been through that side of the spectrum. I am Incredibly nervous about this c-section as I have never had any type of surgery before. I know it's surgery, I know there will be recovery time, but I also know the safety of my baby outweighs those things. I'm looking to other women who have had non-emergency scheduled c-sections for reassurance. What exactly happens? What was your recovery time? Did you get to breastfeed directly after? Ect? (Please no negative comments about my decision)

I had a planned one last Saturday and the recovery has been a hundred times better than it was for my emergency c-section four years ago.

The epidural was very uncomfortable, but a nurse held me and talked me through it. When I felt shaky, I asked for another blanket and they bundled me right up. I was nervous and have a history of asthma. I started to think that I couldn't breathe well because of a sort of heavy feeling on my chest. The nurse anesthesiologist told me that if I could move my fingers, I could breathe. Tapping my fingers on my chest gave me something to do and kept me calm. That's all the "bad" stuff. Talk to your nurses and they will make it better.

After my son was checked out, they gave him to my husband. Once we left the operating room and got back to our recovery room, I was able to hold him, do skin-to-skin, and nurse him. The clear liquid diet for 12 hours wasn't fun! I basically stared at the clock for the last 4 hours trying to will it to be time to eat.

For pain relief, I got a new thing called an abdominal block where the anesthesiologist puts more drugs in your abdomen to blocks pain at the incision for 72 hours. They also gave me more morphine through my epidural the next morning before removing it. I recommend both.

My four year old came down with the stomach flu our first night home from the hospital. Nightmare, right? Since my husband cared for him and we weren't sure if he was contagious and vomiting four days after a c-section would be the worst, I've been quarantined to my room with the new baby. I've done every feeding and diaper change while caring for myself this recovery. I never would have been able to do this before. This recovery is seriously so much better. I'd take the meds they recommend to get you up and moving and healing as quick as possible. You never know what might happen.

I had an unplanned c-section with my first after hours of labor and pushing for 7 hours straight with no progressing. The recovery after all that was more difficult than with my second, which was planned. I hate the spinal block. My anesthesiologist was great though. I had a bit of a panic attack, but he kept me calm and gave me meds to calm me down. Just tell them how you are feeling if you don't few right. It goes by quick though. The baby is born in the first 15 minutes and the rest is spent stitching you up. They'll show you the baby right away before cleaning him or her up. But after the baby comes out, the last half hour flies because all you are thinking about is the baby. My hospital then keeps the baby with you in the recovery room, which is nice. They let you try to breastfeed, but it's difficult because you can't move that well. Either way, you get skin to skin and you can hold the baby. And once you are moved to your room and sitting up in bed, breastfeeding is a lot easier. Beyond that, walk as soon as you can. The more you keep yourself moving, the easier recovery is. Seriously. Get up and get the blood moving. I've always had a pretty quick recovery, and have walked as soon as I can. In the weeks that follow, listen to your body. You'll know if you are pushing it too much. When you feel that way, stop, which is easier said than done, especially with other kids, but otherwise you'll injure yourself. good luck! I'm having my third c-section in April.

I *may* be having a scheduled c section. I had one with my first baby because he was face up. Everyone tells me recovery is much easier if it's scheduled. You don't get to hold baby right away so that sucks. My husband took him to my room where they did his vitals and cleaned him up and waited for me. Then I was brought in and got an hour with him by myself (or however long I wanted) and nursed him. I'm hoping for a vbac this time, but they recommended of this maybe is 9+ lbs like my first we should schedule, which I agree. So I'm prepping for a csection anyway

I had a scheduled c section with my 2nd child, it was really relaxed and calm. They showed me my son once he was born but then I had to stay in recovery for about half an hour, when I came out of recovery I breast fed him straight away. Good luck X

I had an emergency section die to heart problems in november and i can honestly say ive had no problems woth the recovery, after 3/4 weeks i was back to normal and walkingg round, the first couple of days can be really uncomfortable

I'm having a scheduled one. I failed to progress with my first son and had to have one. My mother was the same with both me and my brother. It was horrible pain when I tried to not take my pain meds the first time! I will take them on time every time this go around! Also, at my hospital the dad carries the baby out to the nursery and stays for all the test they do, then brings baby to me in recovery for skin to skin and dad can stay with us, then dad gets to give him his first bath too. I will only be away from my baby long enough for the doctor to do my tubal, sew me up, and move me to the recovery room. I'm looking forward to this one because I know what to expect going in and don't have to labor for almost 14 hours before.

My first daughter was emergency c section , cause after 6 long hours and no progress, her heartbeat was dropping .  my second daughter wad a scheduled c section , to involved issues at labor , just bleed slit . my Chloe is go to be a c section baby also. Well this time , cause am plus size and high risk ,
