Is it safe to take laxatives while pregnant??

No it isn't, it can cause the baby to pass it's first faeces in utero..

Stool softener are safe. I also use colace when I need too

I had severe constipation in the beginning and was even sent to hospital. I promise you the best relief is a tall glass (300ml) of prune juice before bed! You'll pass gas all night BUT you'll DEFINITELY be able to go the next day and it'll be as though you took a laxative. I take it if there's a day or so when it's a little harder to go or if I haven't been the day before etc. It's the best remedy.
