Nipple pain

Laura • My partner and I are expecting our first together in January :-)
I've been breastfeeding and pumping to try to build up my supply. LO is estimated to only be getting about an ounce from me at most at each feeding and therefore is currently on formula supplement as well. He is 2 weeks old and I've been Breastfeeding since day one but all of a sudden as of yesterday I am having severe nipple pain to the point where I don't even want to wear a bra because anything touching hurts. Has this happened to anyone else and will or go away? Also any solutions for pain relief?

Invest in good nipple cream and change the size of your flanges. If your pump flanges are too small that will irritate your nipples to no end! How are you estimating that LO is only getting an oz at a time? I produced very little while pumping but my girl was always off the growth chart .

Pump pump pump and let baby nurse as long and as often. That's the best way to increase milk supply. Oatmeal, fungeek, mother's milk tea. There's nothing wrong with supplementing if baby needs it.

We did a before and after weigh in at the pediatrician. It's not exact, but based on that plus the amount of formula he is eating after that is our best estimate. Doctor and lactation specialist told me to pump after nursing to stimulate my supply, when I do I get half an ounce or less total :-:

I use a nipple balm that's made by "First Years" it's all good grade ingredients so tou don't have to wipe it off to breast feed. I use it after I feed, and after I pump.I only felt pain/discomfort for about a week. I also pump right after I wake up, and try to pump every 2-3 hours of possible.

Rub breast milk on them and let it dry. That helped me a lot. I had a similar problem. I did fine for the first week or two and then out of nowhere they started getting sooo sore.
