I might ask this guy (a friend of a friend who I've only met once or twice but is very cute) to a dance at my school... But would that be weird considering he doesn't really know me and we'd be spending several hours together? I'm afraid he'd say no or if he did say yes then it might be awkward, but I really want to have a date.

I think you should be brave and ask! Since he doesn't go to your school or anything, it'll be less ackward if he says no, you don't have to see him all the time. Also showing up with a guy from another school always feels baller and makes the girls jelly! There is always that risk of ackward silences on a first date, but it's a risk you have to take because the payoff is having an amazing time! If it's not, try to think of it as a learning experience for making conversation on future first dates with other guys! Have fun!
