Any other teachers?

I'm currently in my (technical...long story) first year of teaching. Little worried about barely getting the school year started in the fall before having the baby!

I'm a teacher too. And I think October due date could work out well to be able to use Christmas break as part of an extended maternity leave. I may have to take a few weeks unpaid though after my 6 weeks paid time, but it's worth it to have the extra time with the baby.

I'm surprisingly not nervous. I think it will be okay, mostly because usually for maternity leave they hire a real teacher. That's how I got my very first teaching job was because a lady was out on maternity leave. Usually it's either a veteran teacher looking to work part time or a new teacher fresh out of school looking to build their resume. Either way, it's a win. I wish I could spend MORE time at home with baby. I get 6 weeks paid 6 unpaid

I'm a teacher too! Due October 4th- timing was less than ideal, but still feeling blessed that it happened. I've been teaching 9 years and I know that schools administrators are used to teachers going on maternity leave at all times in the year. It will be ok!

Yep! I'm a health science teacher (previous LD RN). I teach 9-12th. I'm super excited about having a baby for sure. I'm starting a Certified nursing assistant program and it needs to be up and running by December. Not sure I'll be back by then. But I wouldn't change the timing for the world. This is the best blessing God has ever given my husband and I. So timing will all work out the way it's supposed to. Nice to meet all you other teachers and kind of go through this together!

I am an elementary and middle school orchestra  teacher. I've been worrying about the time off since before we started trying :) I had to realize though that my family comes first, and my kids really will be okay for six weeks. I'm nervous, but October is a good time for me because I can still recruit and start the year, but I won't miss any performances, which I would not trust a sub to do.

I feel the same you do! I found out I'm pregnant this week. I'm due in October also... And that will only be my 3rd year teaching. So yes, I'm freakin out. I teach sweet 4th graders. But at least we'll have time in our classrooms to get to know our kids and get our class set up before we leave!

I am a 5th grade teacher! Being pregnant and planning for the future has made me appreciate this job even more. Holidays off, summers off, a week here and there. I take my paper home to grade on my comfy couch and it seems to help reduce the overwhelming ness of the work load

I just don't know what to do for my sub!  Do I plan for her? Do I just give her an idea of what needs done?  Lol its kind of sad I'm worried about it 9 months out.

I'm due mid October. How long before due dates do teachers usually leave? Also, with FMLA, is that an additional 12 weeks after the 6?
