Mirena?

Question

After 8 years of trying to find a birth control that won't make me bleed the entire time I'm on it, I've decided to give mirena a shot. I've tried the implant, depo, and pill and none have done any good for me aside from not getting pregnant. 
So who has or has tried Mirena and what was your experience? I've got 20 days to make a decision and would really like to know the pros and con's from real people and not statistics on a sheet of paper.

I had 2 mirenas-total of almost 8 yrs. Got it taken out last July, ttc. Still nothing yet but I'm a day late for af. I loved it. DH never felt it. I spotted a little at first but then no periods the entire time. Occasionally I'd get pms symptoms but no blood.

I had it and hated it the strings tore into my insides and scratched my husbands thing during sex. I eventually would walk funny bc I felt like I had scratches like tears from childbirth inside me so I got it removed but it works for some bc j have some friends who love it

I had it for 8 years. Didnt have any problems. I loved not having periods. I know some people gain weight but ive stayed 120-130pds for 8 yrs. I recommend it highly.

I had the mirena for 3 years. Insertion was a bit uncomfortable - but once the initial cramps subsided, I loved it! I loved not having to remember a daily pill or switch something out every week. Plus, not having to use condoms was a relief. 
It made my periods much lighter (like two to three days), and farther apart. 
Overall, I had a really positive experience with my IUD up until its removal last August. And once I got to put, my period resumed like clockwork again. 
It's not for everybody though. I have friends who have experiences on both ends of the spectrum. 
If you're looking for a birth control that requires less 'work' on your part, I suggest you try it 😀

I had it - without having children first, which was not recommended. It was fantastic in so many ways - hardly ever bled (from someone who was bleeding heavily and near constantly) but unfortunately it worked itself lose, embedded itself into my flesh and caused a major infection. No fun having them out without an anesthetic. If you haven't had children before, I would suggest having a chat with your doctor as I know most here in Australia won't put them in, as your cervix isn't the right size or shape before kids.

Mine was fine the first two years but then I started getting sharp pains in my uterus that were so horrible I couldn't even stand up straight I went to my Dr and they couldn't find anything wrong then after my 6th visit to the er they finally saw cysts all over my ovaries I'm not sure if I got them because of the mirena but I do know that as soon as I had it removed the pain stopped and I have no more cyst but I've been ttc for a couple years now and nothing 😟

I had two for a total of about 6 years. Had first put in 2 mo after my daughter was born. No problems with them. I did still get a light 3-4 day period monthly.. But im overweight and attributed it to that, as allllll my friends and family with it, do not. I took it out sept 30th last year to ttc and was pregnant in november. Im 33 yrs old and now 15w3d

I loved my Mirena for its convenience, but it turns out it was horrible for me. Had it for 6.5 years, got it out to TTC, got pregnant within about 4 months. Had an easy pregnancy and delivery and got another Mirena at 6 weeks postpartum. I was struggling with PPD so I was on zoloft for my son's first 7 months. But even when my depression and anxiety were controlled, I had this anger always lingering just under the surface. When I got mad it was pretty bad. I thought it was my meds so we switched them and it didn't help. I thought I just had a temper, because for years and years it had been like that. One night I decided to Google "Mirena and anger" and it turns out, it's rare but it can cause mood problems. I should have known because I had a similar reaction on depo, which is the same hormones but a higher dose. I got my Mirena removed and after going through a few days of withdrawals, everything evened out and my anger issues are gone.

Tl;dr if you reacted poorly to depo and/or are prone to mood problems, don't get Mirena.
