25+ year old toys?

Question

My in-laws saved a ton of toys from my husband's infant to toddler years, mostly stuffed animals. Most are in remarkably good shape to my naked eye, but I do know there are some dangers associated with toys that are older (different material safety standards and mold). Does anyone have any good resources for determining whether toys are safe? I would rather not risk it but my MIL is very sentimental.

My son has a stuffed animal that I had as a kid lol. I just washed it on gentle cycle before I gave it to him. And my grandmother kept some toys from when my cousin and I were young and when we go to her house that's what he plays with. We just inspected everything and gave it a good wash before we have them to him.

Plastic toys should be safe.  If your iffy about the the stuffed animals and don't want to hurt her feelings put them up on a Hugh shelf in the baby's room as display/decor.

We are all still alive, right? I'd just wash them before giving them to the baby.

My MIL has metal painted toys that she had as a kid and was letting my toddler play with them and I freaked out. More than likely those 60+ year old toys have lead in them!

I would just clean them off really well and give them a good inspection for loose parts or whatever. It should be fine.

My kids have all passed down a stuffed toy of mine that is going on thirty something years old.
I'm guessing you can search online by the company tag etc to see if there were recalls or safety issues.....?
I throw all stuffies in the washer regularly just to clean them up from dust etc.

My mom has a lot of my old toys....toys were made so much better than so they last! I'm fine and my 9 nieces and nephews that have been playing with them are fine. I wouldn't worry about that. If they are really old paint metal toys from the 50s and 60s I might worry about lead but not things from the 90s

I had a similar issue so I opted to take pictures with baby and the most important toy/stuffed animals and that was it. I'm really scary about stuff like that especially since sometimes those old toys are stored in basement/attics and such...plus just think about it, babies put EVERYTHING in their mouths

Just make sure anything with paint on it doesn't have lead based paint
