What do contractions feel like?

Do they feel like period cramps? Tightening? Can you describe them?

I didn't even realize with my first one that I was having contractions... I started as slight cramping, became painful cramping, very hard stomach and it continuing for a minute or so. Start timing when you feel that! 
Go in when you're contractions are five minutes apart. Or sooner if you want. My labour was fast, and waiting till five minutes apart almost had me deliver my baby in the truck... But that's just me. :)

Trust me at first you might be like "what the heck was that?" Then after it happens again and more frequently you will def know for sure! There's no pain like it unless you've had kidney stones. I have and personally I'd rather give birth!!!! Lol I'm 32 weeks with our 5th baby! Good luck :)

Menstrual cramps are a breese compared to labor pains.... contractions for me felt like someone with long fingernails clawing my uterus and ripping it apart.  I'm sorry, I can't sugarcoat the feeling.   It's extremely painful and I can't believe we can experience that without dying.  Lol. I had a big baby though and pushed for 4 hours before he came out so maybe with a smaller baby the contractions aren't as strong?  😕

Mine felt like death and like I was being torn apart from the inside... but That's because I was. Which is a rare case.  Braxton Hicks just felt like tightening though.
