I've heard that breast feeding/pumping works as birth control... True or not true?? Has anyone gotten prego while bf/pumping

So not true. I've known MANY people who are pregnant right now and are still breastfeeding their last kid. Don't rely on it as an effective method!!!!

NO!!! You CAN get pregnant while breastfeeding. It might be rare, but it is also not a form of birth control

Lactational Amenorrhea Method is a real thing and is 98-99.5% effective BUT like with any method it isn't foolproof. Visit KellyMom.com for more information on it. I have practice LAM with my first two kids for the first 6 months with success but at 6 months I started taking the mini pill as backup.

My cousin got pregnant while breastfeeding and pumping within 3 mo of having her baby. I had actually gotten pregnant while pumping toward around at 10 mo but lost it before I really knew it was there. But each time I have completely stopped pumping and breastfeeding I've gotten pregnant within two weeks of stopping. Currently pregnant with #3 all 3 will be less then 18 mo apart because I stopped pumping either right when they turned one or a week or two before

My doctor said to use it as a backup. Technically your body isn't supposed to ovulate while you lactate, but it can. There are stipulations too. You have to breastfeed like every 4 hours I believe? Might want to double check that but it mostly works while it's the baby's main source of food. After solids are introduced and the baby doesn't nurse as much your body could start ovulating and having cycles again. I wouldn't suggest it as your main form of birth control. Combined with another you should be better protected.

I breastfed my last son exclusive meaning no bottles and I didn't get pregnant or a period for almost a yr...it worked for me as a former of BC but again you have to breastfed on cue and exclusively...it was a stay at home mom so it was easy...it would feed my son then pump after to store milk as well and did it every time I fed him but didn't give him the stored milk til I went back to work
