How can you not know how far you are?

First time pregnant, and I'm confused at how many women are surprised when they find out their baby's gestational age. As long as you know when you had your last period, shouldn't that narrow it down to the right week at least? And if you took the step of tracking your cycles/temps/days of intercourse, seems like you'd know when conception was within a couple days.

Ha, my last period was August 16th.....didn't get a BFP until October 13th. I ovulated realllllly late so yeah it's possible to have no idea how far along you are. Not everyone tracks their ovulation cycle

Many women do not have regular cycles. I am one of them. I was actually even using the fertility awareness method and my symptoms did not even look like I ovulated during the cycle I conceived. I did not even have EWCM. I honestly had even began to think I was infertile and my doc was certain I do not ovulate every month and in the months that I did it was not necessarily smack dab in the center of my cycle.

Every woman is different. Your body is not th standard for all women. Just like every pregnancy and every baby is different.

Even women who have perfectly regular cycles have gone on to find out via ultrasound that they ovulated late in their cycle and their pregnant does not match their LMP or estimated ovulation date based on past cycles.

Plus lots of women have sex without tracking all this information because they just want to relax and conceive without pressure.

Sometimes what they think is a period is actually immolation bleeding. If you normally have a shorter lighter period it could be very easy to confuse the two. If a "period" has some punk and not much if any red then it may be questionable but most (especially if usually using tampons) could get the two confused easily. I've heard it happen many times before. Sometimes really active women or women who have changed eating habits drastically or who have lost a lot of weight recently, they may skip a period every other month, like I did when I was 16 and when I skipped two in a row I knew something was up. I had had some break through bleeding at some point and thought it was a super light period but I went to the OB and I was actually about 20 weeks, found out gender and everything. Couldn't believe it.

I didn't know I was pregnant because I had an IUD in to help with periods and was told after a miscarriage that I wouldn't be able to carry a child. So I didn't have periods at the time when I found out I was pregnant. So not every woman is the same and not every woman keeps tracks of when they are on their period and when they have sex. Everyone is different. So yes, some woman do t know how far along they are. Don't make judgments. 👍🏻😉

I had no idea because I hadn't had a period 8 months prior to my BFP. And I knew I obviously wasn't 8 months so I had no idea how far along I was until an ultrasound confirmed it.

I didn't know I was even pregnant until I was around 10 weeks and I don't remember my last period because it was so screwed up from me getting off birth control to try to switch to a new kind that I just thought it was from stopping my birth control

Maybe its different for me because we were not trying to conceive and was not planned at all but I had no clue when my due date would be!

I had tracked my period in my calendar on my phone and it somehow deleted and I couldn't remember for the life of me when I had it last. And I couldn't pin point a day that we conceived because we were having sex almost every day or every other day! I had been on the Nuva ring and had also logged the day I took it out in my calendar and it got deleted also. And then I held off on getting another Nuva Ring because I was trying to figure out why my insurance was not paying because it was going to be $125 for 1 month.

When I called and gave my doctor the date of my last period, totally estimated, I was supposed to be 7 weeks at my first appt/ultrasound and ended up being 9 weeks and 3 days!

A combination of things. Irregular periods firstly, I could have a gap if 2wks or 2mths n then lasting between 3days n 3wks. Another reason, you didn't think you could get pregnant, after 3yrs we thought we couldn't have them. Another, not everyone tracks their fertility. I came off the injection n left the rest up to the Gods. N the most obvious reason, you can only tell the exactly date of conception if you only have sex rarely. Before pregnancy we'd be having sex anywhere between 7x n 20x a week, the longest gap being 4days when we'd had a row. Hell, even now we're still getting it at least every other day n that's due to tiredness! Lol Hence, in our first pregnancy I was 12wks n was 5wks this time around.

How can you not know how far you are?
