Mosquito virus!?!?

Okay I'm due in July! I'm freaking out!! I'm going to Florida in march....I over think Everything!!!! Any one help ease the paranoia!? Bug spray will be in my purse the whole trip! Thinking it will be like the Ebola thing and it blow over quick. I'm just obsessing and it's still winter!

Okay Ebola didn't blow over quick, it took a few years and 10,000 people died. Show some respect.

It wasn't been proven yet that Zika causes microcephaly. And the cases they've had in Florida were in people who traveled to South America. It's not mosquito season in March, but just be safe. In the next 12-18 months Zika will be all thourgh the sudden states, so just be aware.

I was just at my doctor yesterday, and I asked him about it. He told me that it can only effect you very early on in pregnancy when the brain is developing and if the 20 week scan is good/normal/no issues found you can't suddenly develop a problem that will effect the anatomy. I'd check in with your doctor, but I think you should be ok!

I live in Naples, right above the Everglades. Florida in general is a very buggy state but some areas have higher bug counts than others. I decided I am NOT going to stress myself or my son out over these damn mosquitos because they're everywhere (especially during spring and summer) and there's nothing I can do about it. And, if it is any consolation to you, I read that it hasn't even been proven yet that Zika is what's causing microcephaly in newborns. It could be some other virus entirely. Just wear repellent

Ebola when brought to the US was contained quickly. I think that's what she meant.

The CDC has only put out travel warnings for south/Central America, Mexico and the Carribian as far as I've seen: You should definitely use precaution because mosquito bites are yucky in the first place but unless something changes in the next month, I wouldn't be too terribly concerned to go to Florida.

They aren't certain that Zika is what is causing the birth defects because Zika is not a new thing and they haven't noticed a spike in birth defects from it in the past. I think it's a possibility that something else is causing it and the cdc is being very cautious until they know the root cause. Which is wise!

Everything is gonna be fine. Enjoy your trip , like some girls said they cant established a strong link between Zika and microcephaly. If you made a research in internet they talk about a lot of things that can caused microcephaly in Brazil ( we cant trust everything we read in internet). Anyway carry ALWAYS repellent in your purse , take care and enjoy. Your baby will be fine.

I've also been thinking about our trip to Clearwater/St Pete Beach in late April. We are pretty sure we are still going. Talk with your doctor and follow the news.

A lot of things haven't been proven with the virus and even understood about it. Obviously take precautions and I think we'll be just fine.

I have spent a lot of time researching this subject.  I live in Houston, so fairly close to infected regions, and have a Babymoon planned for Costa Rica that we will likely cancel.

A few things:

1) There is a lot of uncertainty about the disease right now, and no guidelines have been given about when infection can cause birth defects. We just don't know, so it is important to wear insect repellant regardless of your stage of pregnancy.

2) The mosquito that carries Zika has limited migratory patterns (they are more homebodies vs far travelers) and Zika is not carried by animals.  This means the spread of the disease should be limited to traveling infected humans vs widespread migration in the animal community (like with West Nile in birds).  It doesn't mean the virus WON'T spread, it just won't spread as far or as fast as otherwise possible.

3) The carrier mosquitoes bite during the day, so wear insect repellent at all times not just at night.  They also tend to hang out around houses, so use a screen or keep the door shut and AC on!

4) Zika has been transmitted sexually, so be sure to get your partner to apply insect repellant too!

The best peace of mind will come from doing your own research and equipping yourself with knowledge about the transmission risks (which at this point are low), and how to best protect yourself (DEET).

I live in Florida.... I'm not that worried about it. Just put on lots of mosquito repellent... You'll be perfectly fine.. I'm also die in July. They haven't found any cases yet that involved actual mosquitos but I wear repellent just in case.. !! Hope this helps
