Catholic lent??

Question

My husband wants me to not eat meat on Friday were Catholic. I know I'm exempt from it because I'm pregnant I know we can't eat meat on Friday's but since today is Ash Wednesday we can eat meat today nor Friday. Pregnant women can't have to much fish either!  He wants me to do it as a thank you to God for our wonderful blessing our baby that's on its way. So I was wondering what else can I eat besides fish?

Pasta. That's always my go to for lent.

I saw a nutritionist and she said we can eat fish and shrimp 1 to 2 times a week. Just nothing like shark or mackerel, etc. And it must be fully cooked.

Lentils like beans, peanut butter, eggs, protein powder. If you're doing it for God as a sacrifice good for you. But don't do it just because your husband wants you to. That's not really the spirit or meaning of the gesture.

I'm currently participating in lent & im not eating meat & I feel perfectly fine! I just ate a black bean soup & im stuffed lol

If you don't like fish you can still get iron and protein from beans, spinach, lentils etc

You can still def eat fish - there are whole cultures who have seafood as their main source of protein and who have healthy babies! In the US, we are told to avoid raw but in Jaoan pregnant women eat sushi all the time and think we're nuts. Also the rule is just to avoid seafood that is high in Mercury, but other fish (salmon for ex) and shellfish (shrimp, scallops, etc) are totally ok. I think it's more that you should buy your seafood from reputable places and very fresh or flash frozen, but you are also supposed to avoid cold cuts/hotdogs/cured sausages/etc all for the same reason of making sure you don't get sick from meat that has gone off or has unsafe bacteria. I live on the coast so fresh seafood is easy for me to find. :)

Actually there's an exception to the rule.  If you are Catholic, but are nursing, pregnant, sick, you don't need to fast or abstain.  You can look it up on Google.  Maybe give up something else like sweets?
