Microwave popcorn contains chemical compounds: BPA, PFOA, and diacetyl, which vaporize when microwaved, and they pose serious health threats; in particular, diacetyl is linked to an irreversible lung disease, Bronchiolitis obliterans or "popcorn lung." Be safe and pop kernels the old-fashioned way or at the very least, allow the bag to cool first.
