How common is positive GBS?

Question

Doctor says 10-30% of women test positive. I'm just curious how many ladies out there tested positive and had the antibiotics. Is it a big deal? Anyone ask for another test to recheck? The NP who did mine threw the sample in the trash then fished it out and put it in the culture. Not sure if it's worth asking to be rechecked or just take the antibiotics.

I work on a mother baby unit, GBS is very common! Not a big deal, they will try to give you a couple of doses of antibiotics during labor to make sure baby doesn't get the infection on the way out, if you miss those doses due to a quick labor you and or you baby may have a slightly extended hospital stay to monitor babies vital signs (at my hospital it is a 48hr stay). How serious is GBS? I'm in the UK and it's not part of routine checking. I'm contemplating asking to be tested for it at my next me appointment just because I see so much if it on here it's made me worry a little

I tested positive, as did my sister for her 1st pregnancy. My sister said it was no big deal, they pump you with antibiotics,  usually penicillin, and you're good to go. My niece came out totally untouched by the bacteria.  The only negative thing my sister said was that the penicillin can burn if they drip it to fast. But they adjust it if you tell them it's really burning. I was freaked out when I found out, now I'm not worried at all.

I tested positive for a b strip bacteria last week. My dr said it's completely normal and most pregnant women have it, and when we go into labor the nurse will put the antibiotic in the iv so the baby doesn't catch. I'm not sure if GBS is the same thing or if it's something totally different but I'd just thought I'd ease your mind. 😅

This is baby #4 for me I tested positive with all 3 of my boys...currently pregnant with 1st girl and I actually tested negative this time surprisingly
