Do you believe it's possible for anyone to succeed in any career?

Question

As in, do you think people just aren't cut out to do certain things or do you think they can do it if they put their mind to it?
(Answer according to the title of this post)

Being military i can tell you now no matter how fast, strong, smart or good i am there are always leaders and soldiets who believe women should not be in the military or are not good enough.  I can max every PT test bust ass on every ruck march pull more then my own weight and still because I have a vagina i won't be good enough.  I spent 3 years bending over backwards even at one point hid my sex bound my breast and acted more guyish trying to get a infantry spot.  Everything was good to go i was heading (and yes it was open to females) to a open spot even spending time with some of these guys and many knew i was a chick.  I was happily in my element and knew the job i was heading to was one i wanted.  I was running PT lanes one morning firemen carrying a guy my size with a ruck on for workout when a e6 comes out and sent me packing.  Come to find out a higher up got wind i was female and without ever meeting me said get out.  
I tried for another 6 months to get what i saw as MY spot back but to no avail i was female ergo i was worthless.  So i stopped busting ass.  I pass my PT with leisure turned into what others call a 10% soldier.  Basically i said fuck it, i have 2 years left on my contract and i am getting out.   Sometimes it is quite literally not you sometimes it's them.

My husband is a very smart man. He sees things from different angles, he can do ridiculously large sums of numbers in his head, and he can make and built the most beautiful things with his hands. If he had to work at a desk, he would hang himself. He has Adult ADD. He's professionally diagnosed and has dealt with it his entire life. He's an incredibly successful adult, but he wouldn't be if you put him in a board room, without heavy medication. I see no reason to push him in that direction. He makes a lot more money without the board room anyway.

My first born is like his father. It's my goal to make sure he's in an environment that se him for his gifts and his abilities to see things differently and find different answers. It's my goal to make sure he strengthens his inquisitive thinking and learns how to channel that brilliant little brain. This will likely mean the board room is out of the picture for him as well. I support that.

My older brother has literally genius IQ. He also has a severe case of Tourette's Syndrome and ADHD. His brain does not work like others. He is seriously different and brilliant. He failed out of college in one semester. He's since worked for some of the top computer companies in the country and his abilities are outstanding. He's not suffering to say the least.

Why pigeon hole people into being "just like everyone else and fitting the mold? Why can't we accept that everything isn't for everyone? Why can't we embrace how differently our brains work and encourage their growth? I love college for me. I'm a huge proponent of education, but I will not push college if it's not right for my child, especially my first born. We all have our gifts.

No. I think people are very different and have different levels of skill and ability - some people simply are not capable of some jobs because they lack mental capacity or physical ability.

Depends on their abilities. Job performance is directly correlated with IQ, I think someone with a high iq and determination could do anything, but I also think they would excell more in certain areas than others.

Define "succeed".

I'm not a math person. I'm so right brained that I'm surprised I can even do basic addition and subtraction (and sometimes it get those wrong!).

But if I really applied myself and busted my ass, I could probably get a job in a mathematical field. It would be harder for me, and I'd have to constantly be practicing, but I could do it. I just wouldn't be as good as the math wiz next to me, and I wouldn't be the top person. But I'd see that as a success because I did it despite myself.

Now, I'm a natural artist. If I can see it, I can draw it. To me, drawing is as easy as breathing and my pencil is like an extension of my arm. I conprehend this sort of thing naturally. And no matter how hard or how much the math wiz practices, he/she won't surpass me in this. But they can get pretty good at it and after a time they'd see their talent as a success.

So I guess . . . Yes and no lol
