Can newborns have bad dreams?

My baby woke up abruptly crying like crazy wailing his arms... He never cries like that he only cries when he's hungry or wants to be carried but it builds up from him fussing and making little grunting noises to crying... I don't know just wondering if it's possible..

My newborn hated being swaddled. Now she's 2 months and if her hands are covered she will wake up out of a dead sleep. I think her hands comfort her and makes her feel safe.
