Midwife or Doctor?

Hi everyone!

Curious to know if you would recommend a doctor or a midwife preferably? I was thinking of both. A midwife for support and health checkups and a doctor for delivery.

Just wanted to know what every other woman due in September as well thinks 😊

The hospital I go to, midwives is the only option. They have an obgyn on call for emergencies. They seem to have a different birth plan and after care plan than I've seen with friends or relatives giving birth in a traditional hospital setting.

I'm seeing a group of midwives and will deliver at a birth center connected to a hospital. They have facilities for emergent cesarean surgery and a NICU should the baby need it. I also have access to pain management including epidural should I choose to use any during labor/delivery. There's also an OB available if anything goes awry. I love being followed by midwives since their approach is so reassuring/calming and they don't believe in intervening unless necessary; and they leave many choices totally up to me after giving me all the information I need to make educated decisions about my pregnancy and birth, there's no pressure. And the birth center birthing rooms are spacious and don't feel like traditional hospital rooms. I think I'm getting as good of care from my midwives as I would an OB with the added benefit of additional emotional and community support. (I go to a pregnancy centering class with other women due the same month as me and the class is lead by the midwives.) If I had a complicated or high risk pregnancy though I would be followed by an OB.

I'm going with a midwifery group in my hospital.  My aunt is a obgyn and she always told us girls that most women do not need a obgyn and many develop an unrealistic expectation that their dr is going to be the one to deliver their baby.  Women would call my aunt frantically on the way to the hospital (some would go to her house!) but look, if your doctor just got off a long shift/is sick/not on call you're still going to have the baby, better that you meet many doctors/midwives in the same group throughout your pregnancy so you're prepared to see whoever is on call when you go into labor.

I feel more comfortable with a doctor...and I absolutely looove my obgyn, she is the kindest doctor I've ever had. She isn't one of those cold robot doctors who get you in and out as fast as they can, she takes the time to talk with me and my SO. It was so sweet when he came with me to my 1st appointment for our second baby she gave us each a great big hug. I just feel safer with a doctor incase anything (God forbid) should go wrong.

I really had my heart set on having a midwife, but since I'm considered high risk I don't think it's going to be an option for me so I'm pretty bummed out.
