Early period but BFN

My husband and I have trying for only a couple of months and I have been off BC for 3 years. We wanted to spend time with each other before we tried. But I have never had an early period (they are usually late if anything ) now I have light spotting for 3 days and my period starts in 5 days. So I went and took a test but I got a BFN. Should I wait again until I miss a period to take a test or just forget it and keep on keeping on???????
