How long to labor at home?

Question

For those of you who labored at home before heading to the hospital, how did you know when it finally time to leave? 
I'm only a 5 minute drive from the hospital and want to avoid unnecessary drug intervention to speed up labor. Just nervous about waiting TOO long. Please share your stories!

I've always heard that if you want to do a lot of your labor at home to wait until you can't talk or move through your contractions. You only live 5 mins from the hospital, so.. I would feel comfortable with this. : ) Good luck!

My doula advised this: when labor begins, drink a glass of wine (or a half glass) and lay down for a nap. You'll be relaxed and hopefully fall asleep. When you're at about five centimeters, you'll wake up. Jump in the tub, get some loving vibes going with your SO or head to the hospital, depending on what feels right. I love the idea of competing half my labor in my sleep!

The general rule of thumb is go to the hospital when:
1. Your water breaks 
2. Contractions are 5 minutes apart
3. Contractions are intense enough that you cannot walk or talk while having one.

My Dr said I can stay at home until 5.1.1 that means my contractions are 5 mins appart, lasting 1 minuet and for 1 hour.

I did the 5-1-1 rule eith my daughter and ended up still labouring 16 hours in the hospital. 
If it is your first baby, I recommend labouring until the 'I don't think I can do this anymore ' feeling (normally transition) and head to the hospital :)

I waited until I the contractions were so intense I was thinking something was wrong. Turns out I was just at 9cm 😉
 our hospital was 5 min away also - it's so handy to live that close! Do you have a doula? I know they aren't doctors but they have plenty of experience and could help you in knowing when it's time to go to the hospital. Also the contention timer apps are useful.

I talked to my midwife while laboring at home. She told me when to come in by listing to me. I think my contractions were three minutes apart.

Aww.. This was the question running in my mind too... Even my hospital is 5 min far... Am scared to go early.. As well scared to go late cos I decided to ️hav an epidural..
