What age for crib sleeping

Question

When did you let your baby start sleeping in their crib? Did they take naps in their crib before they started sleeping through the night? I'm just wondering if I should even bother removing the mattress protective plastic, put on the bed skirt, ect before the baby is born? I was thinking about having baby nap in her crib to get her use to it. Advice please! :)

From my experience, it's great to immediately start having them nap in their own crib and slowly introducing them to it for night time. Every baby is different, but I chose to have my baby sleep in her crib just after four weeks. It will make it a lot easier for you (and baby) in the long run. In MY opinion, it helps them get comfortable and confident with sleeping on their own. The last thing any mom wants is a 7 month old baby crying for mommy every night! :)

Whatever you decide, I would go ahead and remove the plastic and let everything start to air out. It's recommended that you let things air out for a minimum of a few weeks prior to the baby using them to cut down on SIDS from the fumes the product may emit.

There's no right or wrong on this one, do what works best for you! For us: naps in the crib starting at 3 months. Nights in the crib starting at 6 months (prior to that, in a Moses basket next to my bed)

Depends on your baby. Mine never napped in her crib and I spent half the night taking her in and out. I finally took off one side and put it up against the bed like a co sleeper. That worked for us really well because she would wake up to nurse and then go back to her "bed" next to me. I moved the crib away from our bed and lowered the mattress and put a toddler railing at 19 months. She still woke up at night but got out of the toddler crib herself. She moved to her own bedroom at 26 months in a real bed and still wakes up sometimes to pee or be comforted. Every baby is different and some don't do well in traditional cribs.
