What's an amniosetenis test?

But what does it check and does it hurt

Nowadays usually no need to do an amniocentesis.... Its an invasive test which is done to get the DNA of your Baby and figure out if there is any chromosomal abnormity. They use a needle for it. I wouldn't let do this test, because the risk of miscarriage is 2-3%. The risk of finding a chromosomal abnormity is under 1%..... If you think you need some kind of chromosomal testing: let do blood work which is called 'harmonie test' . Doing this test is safe, 0% MC risk and you get the same informations!

I won't do it. The risk of miscarriage goes up, and I know I'm not going to abort no matter what might be the case. Not worth risking my baby's life.

I've had 3 nurses and 2 doctors tell me the miscarriage risk is 1 in 400. Too high for me. I just did the regular blood tests and got an NT scan. Even those aren't 100% a lot of women show high risk then have a baby with zero abnormalities. Do what is best for you based on your age/health and family history.

It is a needle guided by the doctor and an ultrasound to retrieve amniotic fluid... I had one done at 22+6 because my cervix shortened and they wanted to rule out infection.. It just feels like a shot...

I had one done. It felt like a normal blood test and it didn't hurt. It was quick too. The preparation took a while but the actual needle work was less then 30 seconds.
