Weight Limit?!

This is my first pregnancy, I was given a "weight limit" as to how much weight I can gain in this pregnancy. Which she gave me 25 lbs! My pre pregnancy weight is 170, so I can only go to 195 max according to the dr and anything over 195 is considered "mommy weight"! Was anyone else given the same limitation or heard of something like this??

I think that their hearts and minds are in the right place but they shouldn't use maximum and similar terminology. My doctors said its more of a recommendation. But certainly there are exceptions. I'm overweight and lost 8lbs as of 39 weeks when I delivered. I was told I should gain between 10-15 lbs. My point is not to worry about it too much because it's just a guideline. :)

I was 125 according to the scale at the beginning and I'm almost 165 right now (38 weeks). But I don't think anyone would call it mommy weight on me. I look maybe seven months and I haven't gained weight anywhere except my abdomen and my boobs. No one believes me that I'm due this month. It's a good idea not to gain a huge amount, but "limits" are silly.

I was 185 prepregnancy but I hold my weight well I have ddd I don't consider myself fat at all, and was told I could only gain 11lbs!! I thought that was crazy. I've lost 25lbs due to being soooo sick so the weight gain shouldn't be an issue for me now but I was litter ally shocked they made me feel like I was a fat monster.. This was me about 2 months before getting pregnant. I'm smaller now... But I wouldn't worry about it lol I think it's probably just to help you get an idea of what's normal but if you gain 30lbs I wouldn't fret. Sorry for the picture I know it's a little out there it's just the only prepregnancy one I could find that shows my whole body

I wasn't neccisarily given a weight limit. I was just told to eat when I'm hungry & to just be aware of what I'm eating.

Yes both my doctor and nutritionist said I should only gain between 15 and 25 lbs . It's what's considered healthy

I think it makes sense. It's much easier to work with a concrete number than to just say "don't gain too much." I would just think of that as a guideline so you can see if you're roughly on track and take action if you start to approach that number too quickly.

Depends on who you talk to. My midwife told me the only time she'll be concerned is if baby is measuring too small but I'm gaining a ton of weight or not gaining enough. Most important thing is to get enough nutrition! !!!!!! The scale may not be a true reflection of what you're intaking. Women have been having babies for billions of years. Stick to a good diet and your body will do just fine dear!

I was 219 pre pregnancy and my doctor told me 15-20 pounds would be ideal. However, due to not having any morning sickness I ended up putting on almost 30 by 28 weeks when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. At that point my doctor very gently told me to really watch it until the end, which I have, I only gained 3 pounds since the diagnosis by REALLY starting a strict diet. Long story short, stay on top of it from the beginning (I know I wish I would have!) - not go crazy just be mindful and you will be just fine 😀
