Natural birth?

Question

This is my first pregnancy. And I would like for my birth plan to exclude the epidural. My mom chose to have all 3 of her children naturally and said it wasn't as bad as it is made out to be. However, when I tell people that have had drugs with their births, they try to talk me out of it. 
Can anyone that has actually had a natural birth give me some more information?

I have a friend that did a natural hypno birth and had a great experience with both of hers! Another friend did 1-epidural, 2-natural in birthing center, 3-natural at home. #2 was great which is why she had confidence to do #3 at home and it was a nightmare (very long and painful). I did an epidural and loved it. Ha! I think the best advice is to prepare for natural if that's what u want (you must prepare!) but stay open to the unexpected because u just don't know what will happen!

I have had a natural birth with 3. 2 of them became extremely painful at the end. With my first I wanted drugs after hours of labor, but only proved I was minutes away from the end and didn't need it. My 2nd, I learned that my pain was partly due to having a cervical lip... (With 1st as well) and got through it again. My 3rd, i also learned i really wanted a water birth after getting in a tub with 1st and loved it more with my 2nd. So thankfully i had a water birth for my 3rd and I also took supplements to help lower the chances of a cervical lip and knowing water relieves my back labor (and with the assistance of my strong SO).. I was all for a natural water birth. It was the smoothest, the best, the less stressful water birth experience and i plan to have another water birth with my 4th. 
Truthfully labor is painful and if there are other complications, it adds to the pain. I have learned i (we as women) were created for labor. It will be painful.. but also learned i can help some things to help it go smoother (i.e. Addtl supplements and prepare mentally for what you can do to help the mind get through it) but that took a few more experiences to figure out. Labor can be all mental as well. The more you freak out, the body stresses and reacts with pain. I focused on calmness, accepting the pain and know that it can be a long process. If you can do all thise things, you will know the power of your body and it was built for labor and you will get through it. 
Side note: I was blessed with healthy babies and tried my best to be healthy at those times and i know that helped. There will be times you need drugs. And you will know when you need it.

I had pitocin for my first two and it made labor very painful but I didn't get and epidural either time
... With my 3rd I labored at home for as long as I could and when I went into the hospital I was almost 9cm so it went pretty quick and it was also
 less painful without any type of drug intervention

Don't let anyone talk you out of it if that is what you want. It's crazy that people think a birth these days has to include medications that have multiple side effects, and interfere with the natural bonding process with your baby.

I wish I could have had a natural delivery. I ended up with an emergency c section. Make sure you talk to your doctor and partner. Having them on your side is super important to having the birth you want.

More power to you girl! I would recommend to watch the business of being born, it's on Netflix.  And look up Ina May Gaskin online/pinterest. Everyone's pregnancy and delivery is different and so is everyone's pain tolerance but if that's what you want to do I would say do your research and just think positive, our bodies were made for birth so trust your body and don't be scared! Do go into this with an open mind and know that even if you end up needing something to help with pain or require an intervention of some sort that it does NOT mean you have failed whatsoever! Sending you positive vibes for your pregnancy, labor and delivery! You can do it girl!

I had two natural birth first one went well. Second one was horrific I had to be induced so the contractions where way more intense by the time I requested for an epidural it was too late. Everyone's thresh hold for pain is different I say just go into it with an open mind don't already decide without knowing.. Things don't always go as one plans for.. Hope everything works out for u hun
