Calling science moms: anybody seen an RCT on kick counts?
I know that kick counts are recommended after 28 weeks, but has anyone seen the evidence to back up the recommendation?
Considering that stillbirth happens in only 1/200 pregnancies, it would have to be a huge study to generate any kind of statistical power, and I would think false positives would be a big problem. Is there any real evidence that kick counts are helpful or is this another thing we tell women to do just because it's "low cost"?
(Yes, I know, don't even get me started on how our society values a woman's time and mental state, especially as she becomes a mother.)
