I have a 4 years old and I wouldn't breast feed him, I just myself wouldn't feel comfortable. I think once they can walk to you for the milk there too old. But each to their own.

Just pump, no one needs a kid hanging off their chest, especially a 5 year old!

I don't see, well... Let's put it this way, I am the gross mom you guys are looking down on, I am the mom that decided that she was gonna extend breastfeed, because I lacked fear, because I read everything from pros, to cons, to it is nutritional and those who said no. The bottom line, is I have breastfed my child for 3 years and out of no where he forgot how to, he was done. I wasn't ready but he was. Do not call something so natural gross please. If it is not for you just look the other way. So many are fighting to let others know that breastfeeding is a journey and a beautiful one at that, no matter how long you've decided to do it. I had my fair share of people looking down on me, it I still flopped, popped, and nursed.

There's no nutritional benefit to it.

My concern for a child of that age is around the social impacts. Children of that age in Aus go to kinder or school and I'm wondering if mum would just turn up to feed then instead of them eating with their friends?? From a social point of view I can't see a positive to this, as the child would already have a strong bond with the mother. Personally to feed this long makes me feel it's more for the mothers emotional needs than the child's. In saying this, I don't know the pros and cons in terms on nutrition, which I why I haven't commented on that.
