Progesterone after IUI?

Question

I'm reading that lots of women get prescribed progesterone after their IUI. I asked my Dr about it after my IUI yesterday and said they would do blood work next Friday to see if I need it. Will it be too late by then? Has anyone not been prescribed it?

I'm not doing progesterone after IUI. I thought this was only for women with a history of miscarriage.

I never did anything other than clomid for all three of my iui's.

I had one dr rx it for me then when i moved my new dr refilled it for me but i had my fisrt iui (after months of medicated cycles) and when i asked when to start it she said that she usually never prescribes it but i could take it if it makes me feel better. I left the appointment feeling a little angry. Im not seeing a fertility specialist to make me feel better.

I was actually talking about this today with my nurse right after my iui. Apparently the progesterone is just a supplement to help prevent miscarriages that could otherwise be prevented. Obviously if there is a genetic issue, it wont stop a miscarriage, but it helps thicken the lining and prepare your body for a pregnancy.  My husband read a study that progesterone is suspected to energize the sperm to find the egg. My nurse says one of the 2 drs prescribs the suppository for everyone and the other dr prescribes the cream for everyone. So really i think it depends on the dr.

I was tested one week after 2nd IUI and found it to be very low. The first time it was not. They quickly put me on projesterone but that cycle failed. I'm now in the TWW for the third cycle and directly putme on it thankfully. Hopefully this time it works! Good luck!

My doctor prescribed it but he was very clear that it wasn't necessary and they just prescribe it as an extra precaution. He said many doctors don't prescribe it.

I did my first iui 3/4 dr wanted me to take progesterone suppositories but cause of my Medical history I'm not allowed and still just got my BFP so don't worry it can still happen without 💕

My doctor only prescribes progesterone after an IUI if you use an HCG trigger shot.
