NAILSđ Pt.3 Acrylics and hard gels!
The most popular nail enhancements are acrylics and gels. Here are some things to watch out for.
Acrylics:
â˘Nail tech should use a fine grit file to gently buff the shine out. They should NOT use an electronic file on the natural nail ! This is what causes weak nails, not acrylic enhancements!
â˘Nail dehydrator should be used to take water off the nail. If they don't do this bacteria can be caught between the enhancements and the nail causing an infected nail in certain cases.
â˘Do not touch your face, hair or phone during the service. If you do, they need to prep the nail again.
â˘Electronic File should not be on the cuticle or skin!
â˘Ask your nail tech whether they are using MMA or EMA liquid monomer. MMA is an illegal yet cheap alternative discount nail salons use to save money. It has a very over powering smell, your eyes may water. MMA will create a bind so strong will the natural nail that if you happen to hit yourself, your entire nail bed will fall out with the enhancements, this should NOT happen! Your nail matrix will be damaged forever. If they do not know or answer WALK OUT.
â˘You should ask your nail tech plenty of questions if they don't want to answer or don't know how to LEAVE! That is a red flag!
Hard Gels:
â˘Gel as a gel like, clear, thick consistency that usually comes in a black or silver container like the second picture below.
â˘There is NO SUCH THING AS âPowder gelâ THAT IS JUST ACRYLIC WITH A GEL SOFT POLISH TOP COAT!!!! Many salons sell acrylic as powder gel which does NOT exist! Again powder gel does not exist. Don't pay extra for BS!
â˘Every layer of gel should be cured.
â˘If the lamp gives you a burning sensation it's ok just take your hand out until it does not.
⢠Hard gels cannot be soaked off. Enhancements will have to be filed down.
â˘Gel layers must be thin in order to avoid uncured pockets in the nail
There are so many things I didn't cover so
if you have any questions post down below! Thank you~V
