How do you know when you're ready?

I'm 17 years old and have a long distance relationship. I know physically I'm ready to have sex, but what does it mean to be mentally ready. I love him, but when is the right time and how do you know exactly? I get the urge to a lot, but does that mean I'm ready emotionally? Anybody please help x

You never really know until the times comes; if at that time you feel ready but are hesitant and unsure then you're not ready!! Being mentally ready you have to know the risks and consequences that can come with having sex (pregnancy, infections/diseases, being used, etc) but if you're consciously aware of them all and believe strongly that you'll be alright then you might be ready. But again, only when the time comes is when time will tell
