Rhys is a board-certified general pediatrician who practices in Seattle. He additionally specializes in childhood development, especially in diagnosing and managing autism spectrum disorder, for which he earned a Certification of Excellence from the University of Washington. In addition to his work in clinical settings, he sometimes works as a healthcare consultant and expert witness, and currently serves on both regional and national committees for pediatric care and advocacy.

Rhys earned his medical degree at the University of New Mexico and completed his residency at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he also served as a chief resident and clinical instructor in the Division of Pediatrics.
