Do it when you’re ready. A lot of my friends can “tell” I’m bisexual and so they’ve just assumed and they were right. I’m lucky to have a supportive group of friends though.

Although I say that now, that was not always the case.

I went from a Catholic school to a performing arts high school. So i’ve been in both communities and here’s my best advice:

The people that care don’t matter. The people that matter don’t care.

I’ve never came out to my parents although after I bought rainbow crocs I think my moms suspecting it. Although I won’t come out until I move out because my dad has proved and admitted to being homophobic. Always wait to come out when safe.

In the same case, nobody at my Catholic school knew I was bisexual when I went there. I came out to them after because I decided to not care what they think. They can’t do anything to me after all. Most of them don’t care since I’m irrelevant. Haven’t been to that place in 4 years.

At my arts school, everyone has a very accurate “gaydar”, aka, everyone has assumed I’m bisexual and has been correct. These people though, also don’t care as much and never talk about my sexuality to me. To them it’s just something about me, not anything special, as easily significant as a favourite colour or if I have a pet.

At the end of the day, I said who cares and put the rainbow flag in my instagram bio when I was ready to answer everyone’s questions and was confident in myself.

It’s all about safety and confidence really.

I would say maybe don’t make coming out a big deal. (When you decide it is safe to do so). If you make it a big thing, everyone will have a dramatic reaction. If you just casually say “oh she’s hot”, people might not even clue in, just because it’s not as important to most people as you may think. It seems scary, but understand that it’s this minuscule part of who you are and your personality says so much more about yourself. Be confident and do you!
