As a child I always wanted that perfect family. I’m still young, I’m 15. As a kid, you look up to your mom, want to be her. You depend on your dad to protect you. That’s all I wanted as a kid was a perfect, happy family. I never got to experience that. It was constant fights and abuse for my mother, by my father.

That causes an emotional pain that no kid should have to bear. Watching your mom get slapped is terrifying on its own, but by your own father makes it worse.

He never once touched me, but abused me with his words. And I remember the day we packed up and left, I still had to visit by court rules.

I saw many things a 6 year old should never. He took me to many girls’ houses, I watched him sale drugs. I can’t remember a time he was sober.

All those things piled up, and I broke down and told my mom I hadn’t eaten the whole weekend I was there. She called the police, who investigated the house, there was no food in it. He had never cared to feed me, feeding himself.

And I had already disliked him, but I thought I had to love him, because he was my father.

He disowned me in front of his mom and my own mom. His words were harsh, and I’ll never forget them. “I don’t want anything to do with you or your family. I won’t contact you again.” Out of all of the false promises he made, he kept that one. It’s been roughly 6 years give or take.

He isn’t my dad, he doesn’t deserve that title. Not my father, for he never cared for me. He’s simply the man that made me. Someone who’s biologically my father. He’s just a stranger to me now.

But he sure is missing out on something great. Even if all that happened I am loved by a wonderful family, and my stepdad’s whole family treats me like I was there since birth. I am happy, and there’s nothing better than the family I was blessed with.
