My husband and i are having sex for once in a while since pregnancy but is it safe for the baby? He is very gentle btw and considers my physical and emotional state during intercourse.

Why not. Your dr didn't tell you you couldn't so sex it up. I'm 34 weeks and we still have as rough as we are capable of with a bowling ball in the way lol.
