When should you start to look for a house?

We are purchasing is August and do not have pre-approval yet. We live in Ohio. We also plan on getting grants for being first time home buyers and recent graduates.

One month before isn't even really an option. It takes at least 30 days to close (typically) after you have been pre approved, made an offer and had your offer accepted.

You should get pre-approved before you involve a realtor to be sure you can get a house. I'm also looking to buy and planning to get the fha loan. Then start looking ASAP it's not always an easy thing to find a house you love and it's a big purchase so you need to take your time. You should look for a house between 6-8 months at least. We are 9 months looking and think we finally found the perfect house! Good luck to you!

My mom is a broker... Get your pre approval first it makes the process go a lot faster, you will know what is in your price range and once you find a house you like you won't have to worry about losing it to a buyer who is already qualified.

First start with figuring out how much you could afford. Most banks will approve you for a mortgage much higher than you should actually use. The general rule is to not plan on spending more than 20% of your income on your mortgage and home insurance. You also need to factor in utilities. If you can save up to do a down payment to avoid mortgage insurance, it will save you a ton!

Start the pre approval process up to 4-6 months b4 planning on moving. The paperwork and process takes the longest. Looking for the house comes last but u can shop around to see what ur looking for. But normally a home doesn't stay avail for longer than 30 days so don't get ur heart set on a house more than 2 months in advance of purchasing Time

You need a pre approval first so you can know what price range to look then I think it really depends on the market and your pickiness. We just bought a house and it took us 10 months!
