Trouble staying hard

The guy I'm seeing is recently out of a long term relationship (he's 5 yrs older than me they were together 10 yrs) before we started to have sex we would kiss and dry hump basically and he would stay hard, but when it came time for penetration he only stays hard for a short time could him being recently single have anything to do with this?
