Antibiotics for acne?

With the rise of superbugs, many people say that doctors should not prescribe as great of a volume of antibiotics. Do you think that dermatologists should keep prescribing antibiotics for acne?

Antibiotics are not meant for acne. Acne is not life threatening, and antibiotics can be dangerous if not taken correctly. Your body can quickly become immune to an antibiotic. Then what happens? You switch it up normally. The problem with this is there is not an unlimited amount of antibiotics. Especially for those who have an allergic reaction to a certain strand of antibiotic. I'm not saying you would quickly become immune to the mass amount of antibiotics, but acne is mostly only cosmetic. Now, if you're infested and there is an infection thats different. Just my opinion.

I think it's a good option, but they should culture it and make sure they are prescribing the right antibiotic.  Microbial DNA was what I worked in before becoming a SAHM, and bacteria can share DNA by conjugation and have a plasmid which carries extra DNA which gives it resistance to many things, not just antibiotics.  I think as we sequence more and more bacteria we will learn more effective ways to target them without creating more resistance.

My partner has tried EVERYTHING to get rid of acne. He's even tried that prescription stuff that basically eats away your skin, it scarred his sister's face, but it doesn't help him at all. He's a clean guy, but unfortunately nothing does it.

After fighting his acne for a few years he finally went to the dermatologist who said that if the face wash isn't working that leaves antibiotics. If it's the last effort I don't care. Same with him. He's tried hundreds of dollars of junk to try fixing it but none of it worked. So this is what he's got.
