Wisdom Teeth Surgery?!!!!!!!!

I'm very anxious about getting my wisdom teeth removed surgically. I need all four out which sucks. But expensive from what I heard and researched. I have Guardian Insurance and is in network with the Doctor I'm going to have a consultation with. I hope it covers the some or most of the surgery. I need this done because my teeth has been hurting!! :(  How do people come up with the money? How much did you pay? And how long was your surgery?

Okay I'll try to explain this because I'm a DA & assist chair side but also deal with insurance. I'm assuming that since the Oral Surgeon is a specialist, they're gonna have you pay in full at the time of service & then they will submit a claim to your insurance & you'll be reimbursed. I could be wrong but that's what we do where I work. Secondly, if you get a predetermination from your insurance, it takes about 30 days & it is NOT a guarantee. They're just telling you your maximum coverage but that absolutely doesn't mean they will cover it all. But trust me, you want them removed no matter the cost it will get figured out. You don't want to deal with the pain wisdom teeth can cause. You shouldn't get dry sockets as long as you don't smoke, don't use a straw & no forceful spitting. Meaning when you brush your teeth & rinse, let it fall out of your mouth, don't spit. These things can cause the blood clots to distrupt, causing dry sockets. They will give you post op instructions in case you forget what they tell you & you will cause you'll be loopy. Sorry for the long response, I just thought I could help since I work in the field. I don't know about payment, but I had all 4 out at once, it was very quick and I only took Motrin for the pain. It wasn't bad at all.

I was a sophomore in high school when I got mine out. I had all 4 removed at once. Only that SUCKED and I mean SUCKED was getting dry sockets. Horribly painful. But they packed the holes with gaze and instant relief, so if you do get dry sockets it doesn't last forever! Just schedule for the beginning of the week. I had to go the whole weekend with dry sockets. It SUCKED!!!

Mine was $50 for all 4. But i didnt have to have them surgically removed because i waited til they were all in. I switched dentists because mine wouldnt do it and wanted me to go to an oral surgeon which was gunna be about $1500 out of pocket with insurance. I found a dentist that would do it and he just numbed me up and took them out first visit. He didnt give me any pain pills and i really didnt need them. He didnt even charge me for it either which he had said he wouldnt if my insurance covered most of it.

Well just a tip you can save a lot by skipping the twilight anesthesia and just have them numb you up. I did it without anesthesia because I didn't like the idea of the drugs and it was fine. Just bring headphones and some pumping music and close your eyes and you barely feel anything.

I had all of mine extracted and still paid $1400 out of pocket with insurance. Just have the oral surgeon give you a quote prior to surgery. If you have them out remember to wear that goofy ice pack for the first 24-48hrs otherwise you might look like a chipmunk and NO STRAWS after or smoking if you smoke. You do not want to get dry sockets.

I didn't have insurance at the time and I paid quite a bit of money but they had to come out! I had all four out at once. I looked at the clock right when they put me under and about 30 minutes later I was awake again. I slept all the way home and most of the day. That first day it was slightly painful but honestly more uncomfortable than anything. Eating was the part that sucked. They should give you instructions on what to do and what not to do after the surgery and if you follow those you'll be recovered in no time.

Mine was about $300 I believe. They knocked me out and I remember almost falling while gettin into the car and that's about it. When I got home I looked like a chipmunk lol. And I did for a couple days after that as well. I had huge bruises on my jaw where they took them out so I guess it was just from that. The pain was only bad the day after then I was fine. I just hated not being able to hardly eat

The surgery itself is quick and not bad. You need a few days of resting and you'll be fine. Just dont eat rice for a bit or it can get stuck. The worst part for me was the gauze (sp?) - that was annoying.

The surgery is a breeze. You will be asleep and it is like a blink your back awake. The recovery sucks but if you keep on your meds then you will be fine. Also use ice packs for the first 36 hours only then after that use warm heat packs. Also ibuprophen back to back works wonders. My insurance paid all of mine.
