Painful(ish) sex

I have only been with three people, and my current boyfriend and I have fooled around and it gets pretty hot and heavy! He actually takes his time with foreplay, whereas my previous boyfriends didn't care and wanted to jump right into sex. Saturday night I ended up staying at his house after leaving a party. He was a bit intoxicated and I have a sinus infection (ugh!). Anyway, we started having sex and it hurt. Not excruciating pain but a burning sensation. We didn't have as much foreplay as usual. Sex hurt some with my previous two boyfriends too (with minimal foreplay). We haven't done anything since as I have my period now. Thoughts?? I have my yearly exam Monday so plan to ask my doctor too.
