I have been single for about 8 months now and my best friend has been flirting with me and telling me how much he loves me. I've been aware of his feelings but I just don't see myself with him. I don't want to hurt him I have done it before. How can I make him understand?

Well why not try ....he's your bff, statistics shows most relationship last longer or stay together because of the friendship first. And personally me and mine were bff for 17 years before he put the moves on me. Lol and honestly we couldn't be happier.

If you can't see yourself with him, don't try to force anything. Tell him straight- "BFF, I don't like you in that way and I do not want to date you." This idea of "letting people down easy" is such BS. You're not in charge of his feelings about this! Will he be sad or upset? Maybe! But that is NOT your fault. If he tries to pull you into a debate (and if he's as good a friend as you think he is, he won't), repeat the above and LEAVE the situation. You might lose a friend, but it's better than dating someone just because you feel bad. It's a lot harder to break up with them then.
