Belly button?

I've been applying vitamin e oil to my healing belly button piercing because I read that it is safe to use, and I do know for a fact that it helps reduce scarring. But my question is should I wait a few weeks before I apply it or the sooner the better? I've been using it after I cleaning it saline?
