Privilege Form

I recently just saw this via the news. Do you feel as if the form was appropriate? Should the teacher have lost her job over it?

RNN) – Students in a Spanish class at a middle school in Florida were asked to fill out a form that included gender options such as “cisgendered, transgendered, and genderqueer” on the questionnaire entitled “How much privilege do you have?”

A report by WTSP in Tampa says parents were upset at the teacher-generated handout that James Monroe Middle School said the principal did not approve.

A “Sexual Orientation” column on the handout listed “Asexual” and “Pansexual” as choices.

ADHD was under a disability column, upsetting some parents because students had to reveal their children had the condition. 

The students were not required to turn in the form, the report said, adding that the first-year teacher is no longer in the classroom.

The principal said it was not a district-approved form. The teacher said she wanted to teach the students about diversity to compliment the class lessons.
