Milk intake for my 10week old?

Hey all!

My 10 week old, who was born 3 weeks early (so 7 weeks gestation age), still only takes an average of 2 ounces of expressed milk per feeding. The most she's done is 4 but that is very rare. She also is a lazy & slow eater. Never really "chugs" a bottle.

On the breast, she now is pretty efficient and does about 5-8 min on each side.

However, she is measuring super petite (8th % for her birth age, 20% gestational age)

Do you guys think I should be worried that her intake isn't that much? She's feeding every 1-2 hours during the day and sleeping thru the night.

Have you checked her for tongue or lip ties? My 10 week old had both and was eating constantly and was lazy too. Just a thought, but if she does have the ties that could cause slower weight gain and constant eating but never a lot in one sitting. Most pediatricians (imo) don't know much about ties.

I can't believe I'm going to suggest this since my dream is to get my 8 week old to sleep through the night, but you may want to ask your pediatrician if the weight gain is ok and if not, if you should wake your baby for night feedings. Sure doesn't hurt to ask! If doc says it's going ok, you get peace of mind. If not, you get a jump on getting your baby on the right track. 🙂 Hopefully it's fine because having a baby sleep through the night is awesome!! Or so I hear...
