Anybody else go to school for nursing and end up hating it?

I'm a new RN and hate it. It's nothing what I expected. Feeling alone.

I did med/surg for 3.5 years and was absolutely miserable. Had difficulty sleeping, anxiety, heart palpitations. I'd recommend putting in your time and switching units when able. There's lots of flexibility. I was never crazy about the people connection...constantly dealing with patients, families, etc- it's not for me. But there's OR nursing, quality, IT, program coordination, and so much more- jobs still in nursing, but appeal to people like me. Find out what makes you tick, what you absolutely hate, and move towards new goals. You'll figure it out!!

I'm a nurse, and have been for 8 years. The first year of nursing is SO hard! You learn so much from hands on and real life experience - very different than clinicals or classroom time, and it's very overwhelming. It's also very challenging being accepted as a new nurse by more experienced nurses. Be confident, ask a lot of questions, and try to stay focused on what inspired you to become a nurse in the first place! Hang in there!

I started I medsurg and did it for 3 years. At first I HATED nursing. I regretted becoming a nurse. After the first year or two, I stopped hating it so much, but still didn't enjoy it. Then I started working in he maternal/child unit at the same hospital and now I LOVE what I do. You gotta put the hard work in, get your foot in the door, and then switch to a unit you've always wanted to. It gets better, just find an area you're passionate about :)

I love being a nurse. I didn't really enjoy med/surg at all, but then I went on to PCU and enjoyed it more and now I work ICU and love it! It's challenging and exciting and you get to make a huge difference in people's lives.

I went through school to be a medical assistant and then went to school to become a CNA. I love my job but not the people I work with. They single me out all the time. It is hard. Best advice is to keep at it and do your best. If nothing else, you can always find another job.

My friend hated working on L&D crazy enough. She was miserable and stressed 24/7. She requested a move and ended up in geriatrics and loves it. For me it would be the opposite but she said she doesn't grieve losing elderly patients the way she did when she was the nurse and a baby or mom died.

Not for nursing, I went to school for social work and HATED IT! I knew it wasn't my cup of tea after my 1st semester but since I was raised to finish what I start, I had to go through with it. I graduated but haven't done anything with my education. Looking into other options. All the power and respect to those of who are are social workers but not for me.
