Spotting?

So I just started taking the pill about 3 weeks ago and I know spotting is common but it's bleeding more than what I would think spotting would be like.... It seems almost like a small period with cramps and bloating and all that. So do you think it's spotting or maybe my period? How long does it usually last? And if it might be my period should I avoid taking the inactive pills scheduled for next weeks?
