How did your cat react to newborn?

Anyone have some good or bad stories about the way their cat treated or reacted to baby?

We unfortunately had to rehome our younger cat Gunther before our son arrived due to him becoming upset that I was pregnant and changing his behavior toward me and starting to pee on the floor, he was almost 6. The last thing we wanted was him becoming aggressive toward our son so we rehomed him to my FILs farm and it worked out. However our older cat Zoey has had no problem adjusting to our son and is very respectful of him, she does not get close to him really at all and will watch him with curiosity. She has never tried to sleep or lay in any of his things (swing, car seat, boppy, rock and play, etc, and generally leaves his toys and other stuff alone. She does get concerned when he cries though, my husband says it's almost as if she is worried about him and tries to get our attention to take care of him. Here she is checking him out when we first brought him home back in December lol

When my daughter was born nearly 18 years ago my cat Barny was totally curious and kept tapping her on the face.  However we soon realise that the warmth from her head and the scent of milk was attracting him to her and I found him asleep in her cot by her head.  From then on I had to keep him away from her while she slept.  Cats don't really care about babies but can be dangerous once they realise that that baby is a ball of milk smelling warmth

Our cat (11 at the time) was totally fine. He sniffed her a few times when we first brought her home and then more or less ignored her until she was mobile.

Once she could follow him around, he was pretty tolerant. He'd just leave if he got sick of the attention. She actually learned to walk following him.

Now, DD is 6 and our old man kitty is almost 18. She's learned how to handle/carry him properly and he's totally fine with her. He's worn crowns, been tucked into bed, cuddled when she was sad, played with, and everything in between.

If she gets too rough or he gets really sick of plao, he'll pin his ears or swat a little (declawed in front). If she doesn't stop (which she usually knows to do by now), he'll nip a little or get her with a back claw.... And to be honest, in those cases she deserves it.

We didn't allow her handling him unsupervised until she was at least 4 and were confident she knew how to be gentle and listen for his cues (and that we were confident the worst he'd do is a tiny scratch before running away).

My old lady cat was really jealous and tried sleeping in the bouncer and crib. She got in trouble and I never had an issue after. She still doesn't really like my daughter 4 years later lol but she's nice to her still

We had no problems. The cat wants very little to do with the baby or her things. Sometimes when the baby cries the cat will check on her and my sil gave us her old bassinet and I of course set it up way before the baby was born and the cat took it over. We let her have it since we have a crib, rock n play and pack n play.

My cat was fine with all the changes, but the moment we brought home our son, he peed in his basinet (which we had to throw away, which sucked) and wasn't too keen on him initially.  Now, they're totally fine! Granted it's been 8 years! 😂😳
