Facebook question

Is it possible for someone on Facebook to "hide" certain friends from me? So, say I know someone is friends with a certain person but if I go to their friends list and search for that person, they don't show up even though I know they are friends. Or can Facebook users set it to where they are not searchable in friends lists?
