Breastfeeding as a working mom?

Question

I just want some opinions. I work 32-34 hours a week at different times every day. Most shifts are 7-8 hours. I want to breastfeed my child when it comes but I got to thinking if I only get 6-8 weeks maternity leave before having to go back should I even bother breastfeeding?

Yes! With my first I only got 7 weeks of maternity because I'm military and was able to bond and establish my supply. I was able to pump and store while I was at work and ended nursing for 11 months. It can be done.

Yes you absolutely should. There are so many benefits for you and baby! Plus you can continue after returning to work by pumping while away and breastfeeding when you are with the baby. I have dome this with 3 kiddos so far and pumped/breastfed for about 6 months with all of them. I did get 8 to 12 weeks home with them which I will admit might have helped get into a routine, but having different shifts may actually help you body not lose supply as quickly since baby does a better job of draining!

Yes it's worth it.  I feel good about nursing my baby during my lunch break and when we're home together.  I do pump every morning and afternoon in addition to the lunch time feeding everyday I work.

Yes do it. Legally your job can't deny you time to pump and an area you feel comfortable doing so. It is worth it and it is doable. If it's what you want to do do not let anything stop you!!

If that's what you'd like to do. You can also breastfeed and pump or exclusively pump (I've done both) with my 2nd I exclusively pumped working 24 hrs shifts 60 hrs a week and it went fine :) but it's up to you and what you feel capable of

I'm in the same dilemma! I know it can be done but from the experience I had breastfeeding as a stay at home mom for a year with my first I know it will be super hard!!!! But I feel like if your determined to do it then nothing will get in your way. It may not be the easy way but it is the best thing for baby. Good luck!

If breastfeeding is what you really want to do then yes u should...even as a working mom. You will find a way to make it work
