I'm confused about my period :/

I started my period on the 10th and yesterday I thought it was over with. I didn't have any bleeding or even spotting the entire day, but I slept with a panty liner just to be safe. My boyfriend and I woke up an had sex this morning and after we were done I noticed one drop of blood on him. (He doesn't care, he knew I had been on my period this week.) and I went to the bathroom and a bunch of blood gushed out of me, including some uterine lining. Wtf? Now it's back to a heavy flow, like I got excited about my period ending. I'm sick of using pads and tampons. Is that normal?
